A handful of earth (1st revision)
A handful of earth
A handful of soil
Can make things bloom,
But only with toil
If left alone
It grows stagnant and dry,
Nothing grows there,
Neither barley nor rye.
But if it is cared for,
If seeds are sown,
If you will help it
Along as it’s grown
Then it will set forth
A harvest so large
You couldn’t haul it away
In one sailing barge!
Darkness Rising (2nd revision)
In places we wont admit we have
There is a beast
The beast that will tear apart everything that we fight for
The beast that will kill
In most the beast is off in its own little
Corner, feasting on the stray thought
The beast waits… … …
And springs!
The good held firmly in its grasp,
The beast slinks back
Back to its warm cozy corner of
Your mind,
Your heart,
Hiding.. Always
Hidden it waits for more
Happiness to
Come to you
More for it to feast….
We ignore the beast
“we’re all good”
The beast will fight
With anyother
Beast it doesn’t matter
Where
When
Why….
Fighting, always
Fighting….
Darkness rising (final)
Darkness trespassing,
Falls out of sight.
Internal trepidation
ignored in the night.
Internal justification,
Brings no change
It will take more,
A hope that will rain
physical hope
invisible trust
something bigger,
something for us,
There is something dark,
Something brooding,
In the corners
In the shadows
It creeps, waiting
Waiting for a chance,
A moment is all it needs,
All it needs to find a hold
It will not hesitate,
Not back down,
Only one goal
Single minded
It finds it’s hold
Grabs it’s prey,
You..
Claims another victim
Dust settles, nothing
Left. But a pile of nothing,
Towering to the sky,
Digging it’s own grave.
Decide (2nd, final)
The path splits,
The choice isn’t simple
Either way,
will make more than a ripple
No right answer,
No way to choose,
Save the flip of a coin
such dire consequences for such a small choice.
Time is wasting
With every moment you stand
Don’t waste too much,
Decide.
Blameless
Your every thought
shaping itself
into something other
than what you
wanted,
Only one place
left to go
only one person
left to trust,
knowing that
you can’t go further,
knowing that there
is no
cure.
Finding yourself alone,
you turn
around
and go
the other way,
find the break.
Find the cure.
Find the lack
thereof.
Find
no one
to blame,
there is no
villain here.
No one to place the
blame on.
No one to
villainize..
There are no
heroes
here, no one
to turn to,
it’s you,
and you ,
and you.
There is no
‘evil’
no
‘good.’
those are
only terms
anyway, they
are a subject
to your point
of view. You
against
the world.
You vs.
you.
Blameless (2nd, final)
No one here to blame
For the problems we don’t cause.
But it’s all falling
Anyway.
De-Sprung (2nd, Final)
Everyone needs
A little spring,
A spring that’s sprung,
No longer taut, no energy
Left, stressless.
They could carry it around
In a pocket, no bigger than an
Unclenched fist.
And when pressure builds,
Stress like a bubble at high tension
Pops. The little spring,
The spring in the pocket,
Take it out, and the stress,
Like the spring, uncoils,
Sinking to the ground
If I had a little spring, a spring that’s sprung,
I’d carry it around
And when stress built up,
I’d take it out of my pocket,
And De-spring it.
Happy place (2nd, Final)
A happy place is what we want,
A place where nothing goes wrong,
A place that’s all grassy hills with a single tree at the top,
Friends, chattering back and forth, laughing.
That place is here, not there
Back again, forward
Searching, we find ourselves stuck in this well worn path
No one wanting to be the first, to break the norms.
Mores holding us in, setting us free
Confining, and letting go at the same time, does anyone really understand that?
Moving along, we forget the search,
The search that never started,
It’s only a dream, only a wish,
And wishes don’t come true.
If it is real, where is it? Who’s been there?
Is there a book? A movie?
Too many questions, not enough answers,
Flooding the mind, but not choking it.
Realism wins out in the end.
It’s easier this way,
leaving the happy places behind,
A field of hills that nobody wants
Trees with no one to sit under them,
The happy place isn’t happy,
If there’s no one to be happy in it.
In my defense: (“it shouldn’t have been us” 1st draft)
I wasn’t there,
that’s true,
But neither were you,
You forgot, and so did I,
We weren’t helpful
together.
and one more super-emo poem:
“It shouldn’t have been us.” (2nd, Final)
We weren’t supposed to end it like this
We should’ve seen something was amiss
Spending our days in never ending bliss
“It was to good to be true”
Now we both stand on opposite banks
With mass graves and coffins to our flanks
No children laughing or pulling pranks
“We’re stronger apart”
There’s no one there to help us down
From the pedestals we sat on to gain renown
I guess making us the fools of the town
“Fools are so often remembered”
But with these graves at our sides
There’s no place to hide
From these feelings inside
“You can’t hide forever”
These are all poems that I wrote for a poetry clas that I took last year, some are not as good as others, and some I've left out entirely.
oh well, hope you enjoy.
